The Peace Corner Youth Center opens itself to neighborhood youth all day for six weeks during the summer. During our summer program, children are with us from morning until early evening and are provided with healthy snacks and lunch. Children enjoy a wide range of activities. We offer athletics, academic enrichment, academic games, community service projects, field trips, guest speakers, and full use of our recreation facilities.
Field trips have included trips to the Adler Planetarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Navy Pier, Indiana Dunes, The Willis Tower Sky Deck, Foster Street Beach, The Chicago Fire Department, fishing with C.A.P.S., and local area forest preserves. Field trips are an excellent way for our neighborhood youth to experience other parts of Chicago that they might not ordinarily have the opportunity to visit.
Community service projects have included a peace march, creating a tree garden in the Austin community, participating in Hands Across Austin, and cleaning Moore Park. Community service projects help our youth understand the importance of service and what it means to be a responsible community member.
